The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unjustified” travel bans imposed by the United States on five European individuals involved in fighting digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.
European Leaders Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders including the French president charged Washington of “bullying and threats”, after the visa restrictions were placed on individuals that were at the heart of campaigns to introduce legislation governing US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have led coordinated campaigns to pressure American platforms to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” stated a senior US official online. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
